Clark Suite - Millpond Inn
Guest rating: 5.0 / 5
Overview
The Clark Suite is an independent guest suite within the Millpond Inn, a small property in the historic Village of Clarkston, Michigan. Originally opened in 1994 as a traditional bed & breakfast, the Inn was completely refreshed in 2020 and the suite itself has been updated with new appliances, linens, and furniture. It is named for Jeremiah and Nelson Clark, brothers credited with helping shape the local community, and it is the Inn's only accessible suite.
Suite & Amenities
The suite offers a spacious layout with a full kitchen, oven and stove, microwave, ironing board, cable TV, air conditioning, heating, and a fireplace, making it comfortable for both short and extended stays. It is smoke-free, kid-friendly, and equipped with a crib for traveling families. Guests also have access to a shared backyard retreat with a BBQ grill, outdoor dining tables, and a 6-person professionally maintained hot tub.
Dining
A complimentary continental breakfast is provided directly in the suite, including pastries, fresh fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, breakfast bars, and Keurig coffee and tea. Guests who prefer to explore can walk into downtown Clarkston, which offers a range of restaurants and cafes including Latin cuisine and award-winning BBQ.
Location & Surroundings
The suite sits on the back side of the home with direct parking lot access and overlooks the Mill Pond, offering a quiet setting just steps from Clarkston's historic downtown, shops, and gardens. Outdoor enthusiasts can reach hiking trails in the Holly and Fenton areas, while Pine Knob Music Theatre and Ski Resort is about 4 miles away and Mt. Holly roughly 10 miles north. The Inn sits just off I-75 on Main Street, with Bishop International Airport about 36 km away and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport about 59 km away.
Parking & Practical Notes
One reserved parking space is included with the stay, with additional parking sometimes arranged in advance or available in a nearby commercial lot; walking into town is encouraged given limited downtown parking. Rates are based on 2-person occupancy, with additional guests (ages 2+) charged $50/night, and items like a pack 'n play, high chair, or booster seat are available on request. The Inn maintains a scent-neutral, smoke-free environment, and events such as parties are not permitted.
Best for
The Clark Suite suits couples, small families, and travelers seeking a quiet, self-contained retreat close to downtown Clarkston's shops and restaurants. Its full kitchen, crib availability, and kid-friendly designation make it workable for families with young children, while the accessible bathroom and wheelchair ramp make it a strong option for guests needing step-free access. It's less suited to large groups or event hosting, since gatherings such as parties are not permitted.
Travel tips
Walking into downtown Clarkston is recommended over driving, since downtown parking is limited and the stroll past historic homes and the Mill Pond is short and scenic. The Inn is just off I-75 on Main Street, making it a convenient stop whether arriving from the north or south, and a detailed guest manual provides specific directions and parking instructions. If you plan to attend a show or ski at Pine Knob (about 4 miles away) or visit Mt. Holly (about 10 miles), allow extra time for local road traffic on event days.
