Rocky Mountain Getaway- Divide Views, Hot Tub, Skiing
Guest rating: 4.9 / 5
Overview
This is a remote mountain home perched at 9,000 feet with sweeping views of the Continental Divide, situated in the Colorado high country near Nederland. It's a genuine getaway rather than a polished hotel property, offering snow-capped vistas, star-filled night skies, and regular sightings of hummingbirds, deer, chipmunks, and the occasional elk or moose. The home suits travelers seeking a true unplug-and-disconnect experience in any season.
Rooms
The home has a small master bedroom with a king bed tucked against the wall, and a second small bedroom with a queen bed plus a small bunk above the foot of the bed suitable only for a child or very small person. There is one full bathroom with a tub and shower, though hot water is limited. Space throughout the sleeping areas is compact and cozy rather than spacious.
Kitchen & Living Spaces
The modern kitchen is well appointed with wood cabinets, stainless appliances, and granite counters and island, stocked with a coffee maker, toaster, steamer, electric can opener, electric griddle, and full cookware, dinnerware, and glassware. The living area features a leather couch around a redwood slab coffee table and a two-sided fireplace shared with the dining area, while the pub-style dining table offers direct Divide views. Sliding patio doors from the kitchen lead to a back patio with a stainless gas grill.
Amenities & Recreation
Outdoor highlights include a hot tub, fire pit, and grill for evening relaxation after a day outdoors, plus free parking, free Wi-Fi (basic, not suited for streaming), heating, and a fireplace for cold mountain nights. There is a large TV and DVD player for occasional movie nights, but no cable or Netflix, reinforcing the property's disconnect-and-unwind character. The home is smoke-free and kid-friendly, with an ironing board also provided.
Location
The property sits in a remote, hard-packed dirt-road neighborhood roughly 8 miles from Nederland for groceries, gas, and dining, about 20 miles from Boulder, and around 38 miles from Rocky Mountain National Park. Eldora ski area is about 13 miles away, Loveland roughly 50 miles, and both Denver International Airport and Centennial Airport are around 62-65 kilometers/miles distant. A cluster of restaurants and casino dining, including options in Black Hawk, sit roughly 13-20 kilometers from the home.
Best for
This getaway is best suited to adventurous travelers, couples, and small families or groups who want a true mountain disconnect with skiing, hiking, and wildlife viewing nearby, supported by the hot tub, fireplace, and grill for evening relaxation. It particularly fits guests comfortable with 4WD mountain driving and rustic, off-grid-style living rather than hotel-standard service and amenities.
Travel tips
A 4WD, high-clearance vehicle is required from October through May, and guests should be comfortable with steep, hard-packed dirt mountain roads; during severe snowstorms, cars must be left at a parking pad with a 50-yard walk down the driveway, so boots are essential. Cell phone service is unreliable and Wi-Fi is basic, so plan navigation and communication in advance, and stock up on groceries and essentials in Nederland (about 8 miles away) before heading up. Denver International Airport is roughly 65 miles/1.5 hours away, so allow ample travel time, especially in snow.
What guests say
Guests consistently describe the home as beautiful and relaxing, with the mountain setting, hot tub, and open kitchen/dining/living layout praised as ideal for a weekend getaway with family or friends. Several reviewers highlight the value of a nearby town recommended by the owners for restaurants and breweries, roughly 30 minutes away. Some guests note that snowy road conditions can feel a little unnerving for those unfamiliar with mountain driving, and there have been complaints about a lack of extra towels for the hot tub and overgrown weeds, including poison oak, around the hot tub and fire pit area.
